Children for the Oceans had the chance to attend the opening session of the Monaco Blue Initiative at the end of March. This 10th edition gathered more than 140 participants from 26 countries and had a complete focus on Marine Protected Areas (MPA).
The Monaco Blue Initiative is an event well known for ocean experts, which is organised under the presidency of HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco. The event aimed to provide the opportunity to focus on solutions to develop Marine Protected Areas (MPAs), in terms of percentage but also level of protection and efficiency in view of the post-2020 Aichi Biodiversity Targets.
This is a great opportunity for Children for the Oceans as I had the opportunity to meet Mr. Karmenu Vella, Commissioner Environment, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, European Commission, H.E. Mr. José Apolinário, Secretary of State for Fisheries, Government of Portugal and Dr. François Houllier, Président Directeur Général de l’IFREMER.
Children for the Oceans’ actions include the attendance to international events as we need to make our voice heard and we could not longer wait for pragmatic actions to save our ocean!
